George O’Dowd, better known as Boy George, the former frontman for the 1980’s band ‘Culture Club’, has been sentenced to 15 months in jail, for falsely imprisoning a male escort.O’Dowd was convicted of handcuffing a male escort to a wall in his London apartment, leaving him there for just under an hour. The escort, Audun Carlsen, accused O’Dowd of taking nude photos, and then chasing him out of his apartment, beating him with a metal chain. Photographs of his injuries, for which O’Dowd swears he was not responsible for, were shown to the jury.
According to the defense, O’Dowd had not chained Calsen to the wall for any kind of obscene reason, instead doing so after he became worried that computer had been tampered with by the escort. Both has been heavily using drugs at the time of the conflict.
Adriana Waterman, O’Dowd’s lawyer, spoke to the judge at the sentencing, imploring for leniency.
“This defendant is a kind and generous man who is particularly mindful of others’ needs. He is the antithesis of the haughty bullying star. He was not himself when addled by the habitual and relatively long-lasting using of illegal drugs.”
O’Dowd was taken into custody to serve his 15 month sentence
